Phoenix is the capital and largest city of the American state Arizona. It is located at the valley of the river Salt, also known as "Valley of the Sun", at an altitude of 340 m from sea level. It is located in the Central part of the state and the heart of the Sonora desert. Scattered, low mountain ranges surround the valley: McDowell Mountains to the northeast, the White Tank Mountains to the west, the Superstition Mountains far to the east, and both South Mountain and the Sierra Estrella to the southwest. The beauty of the rocks under the scorching sun of Arizona became the leitmotif of this collection.
