Sorbonne - an architectural and historical monument, the center of the University of Paris in the French capital.
When in 1622 Cardinal Richelieu became director of the Sorbonne College, the college was just a dilapidated building that formed around the 1st chapel. In 1626 Cardinal commissioned Jacques Lemercier to restore the unity of the classical style.
Today the Baroque façade of the chapel in the Sorbonne is regarded as the first masterpiece of French classicism.
